Hello World!

Hi there, and welcome to my very first blog post! I like organizing things and that means having a clearly defined system of categorization, and since this is the introductory post I figured this is as good a place as any to lay all that out. I will, of course, update and tweak this system regularly as my skills and interests change.

I’d like to start by taking a little time to explain what this blog is for; writing it out here helps me to keep it straight as well. First things first, I like to do a lot of stuff. And I mean ALOT of stuff. I don’t think I’ve come across a craft or activity that I didn’t try or put on my ‘to do’ list.

Second, I love to learn. Any and all topics are on the table for me and I don’t intend to become an expert in them, but I would like to at least understand the basics.

Finally, books, films, and TV shows are a combination of the two, and just plain fun to indulge in. I’ve been a part of fandom for years and the analysis of a piece of media is just as entertaining as the media itself – and in some cases even better, as entirely new works (both as part of the canon and in the realm of fanfiction) can spring from the efforts of fans.

On to the main point of this post – the classification system. Everything will start as being one of two things; Thought or Action. Anything under thought means that its a piece of media or knowledge that I have consumed and am writing about; a book review, comments on an article, even a product review if I find something that I need to talk about. Blog posts on these topics will also be displayed/linked to in the Gallery. Anything under action is something that I have actually done; a painting, poem, or other craft that I’ve worked on or participated in the creation of. Blog posts about these topics will show up in the Portfolio.

Beyond that, the system is as follows:

Major categories will be split up into a few options:

Everything else will be tagged according to what the specific post is actually about (the bigger the word, the more posts about it):

Adult Ancient Egypt Anime Arabic Archaeology Baby BIPOC Blanket Books Cross Stitch Fantasy Fauna Fiction Flora History Horror Intro Knit Latch Work LGBT+ Math Natural World Poetry Scince Series Spicy Vampire YA Yarn

I’m going to be rating things based on how much I personally enjoyed them, and not necessarily on how good they are within their given medium.

All things start with 3 of 5 stars and then move up or down based on one of the following (in no particular order):

  • Vibes
  • Visuals
  • Practical effects
  • How much I need to suspend my disbelief
  • Cast/Crew/Creator
  • Outfits
  • Music
  • Descriptions
  • Length – as in was I aware of the length in a bad way or good way
  • Story/Plot
  • Interest post item (eg. did I look up more info after)
  • Fandom

Obviously not all of the above is going to apply to every type of media, so I’ll only be considering what can actually be applied to each for my ratings. And also not everything will have the same weight, that will largely depend on each thing individually and why I decided to watch/read in the first place.

If something is sooo good that it goes above 5 stars then it gets an additional rating of a lotus 🪷, and if its so bad that its less than 1 star, depending on weather or not I just drop it and don’t even bother to include it, it will get a skull and crossbones ☠️

That’s about it for now! Like I said I’ll be coming back and updating this as we go, but this is really mostly for me to be able to keep everything neat and organized.
